Technique and Style

Dan enjoys teaching both adults and children, and offers lessons online and in his private studio in Boston. With a conservatory background and over 20 years of practical experience performing in a number of musical genres, Dan is happy to work with students at any level, from complete beginners to serious music students and experienced performers looking to expand their "tool kit". Whether you're looking to begin your journey on a new instrument, delve into historically-informed performance practice, or augment your classical training by exploring folk music traditions, Dan can help you on your path.

Dan offers private lessons and group classes in the following instruments:

  • Recorder (solo and ensemble playing)

  • Renaissance flute (solo and ensemble playing)

  • Other Renaissance winds (bagpipes, sackbut, shawm, capped reeds)

  • Uilleann (Irish) bagpipes

  • Tin whistle

  • Irish flute

  • Gaita gallega (Galician bagpipes)

  • Zampogna (southern Italian bagpipes)

  • Hand percussion (bodhrán, frame drums, tambourines, and others)
