The Folger Consort Presents "A Mass For Christmas Eve" (Washington DC)
Composed in 1694, Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s “Messe de Minuit pour Noel” is based on captivating, folksong-like noels steeped in the composer’s characteristic balance of irresistible dance rhythms and sophisticated harmonies. The Consort will complement Charpentier’s Mass with haunting English “Balulalows” for voices set amid joyful instrumental concertos by Italian baroque masters.

“The Long Night’s Watch” with Seven Times Salt (Boston)
Seven Times Salt's beloved annual concert (now in its 22nd year) celebrates the winter solstice and the return of the unconquered sun with music from the British Isles, Europe, and the New World. To see us through the longest night, we’ll perform a warming blend of familiar carols, festive wassailing songs, wintry consort tunes, Renaissance dances, upbeat Irish reels, and a helping of STS originals. Audience participation encouraged and jollity guaranteed!

Ensemble Origo at AMS (Chicago, IL)
Ensemble Origo performs their program “Un Sarao de la Chacona”, an exploration of the African and Mesoamerican origins of the chacona and sarabanda. Voices, vihuela, guitar, winds and percussion bring 17th-century Spain and South America to life as part of the 2024 American Musicological Society conference in Chicago.
Tufts Early Music Ensemble Concert (Boston)
The Tufts Early Music Ensemble, taught by Jane Hershey and Dan Meyers, presents “Banchetto Musicale: Music from Germany in the 16th Century”. Students will perform on recorders, viols, krummhorns, harp, organ, and voice, in a program of German tenorlieder and other instrumental pieces from the 1500s.

A Candlelit Concert of Celtic Music (Boston)
The First Parish Festival Choir, soloists and Celtic instrumentalist, directed by Rip Jackson, will present a candlelit concert of choral vocal and instrumental music from Scotland and Ireland. Bagpiper and eclectic folk musician Daniel Meyers will be joined by an instrument ensemble including harp, percussion, fiddles, guitar, bass, uilleann pipes, tin whistle and keyboards. “Let’s Make Arrangements” with Sempervirens (Boston)
Sempervirens presents a brand new program spanning the Middle Ages to the present day. Four virtuoso recorder players join forces to perform music originally written for lute, organ, piano, voice, saxophone, and even symphony orchestra, all arranged to highlight the remarkable sound of the recorder consort. This highly varied repertoire includes vocal works by 15th-c. Franco-Flemish masters Busnois and Josquin, keyboard variations of Bach and Sweelinck, selections from Ligeti’s Bagatelles and Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and dances ranging from the Medieval estampie to modern American folk songs. You’ll discover music that’s so compelling, Sempervirens just had to make arrangements to play it!
Zafarán at Blackstone River Theatre (Cumberland, RI)
Carmen Marsico & Zafarán explore music that crosses time and boundaries, incorporating traditions from all over the Mediterranean, with a focus on the folk traditions of Basilicata as well as Rom migration patterns. Zafarán will perform music from Southern Italy, Cape Verde, Turkey, Greece, and Spain, plus traditional Romani and Ladino songs and original compositions.
